This is Professor Bodin, the first LEGO minifig to be a female scientist. According to her bio on the LEGO website she is renowned for her work in body part swapping and has won coveted Nobrick Prize for her discovery of the theoretical System/Duplo Interface. There have only been a …
Got this mini-fig today in our bundle of packs. Very cool…
This is probably the most painful bug report I’ve ever read, describing in glorious technicolor the steps leading to Knight Capital’s $465m trading loss due to a software bug that struck late last year, effectively bankrupting the company.
The tale has all the hallmarks of technical debt in a…
The more I think about Pacific Rim, the more I realize that half the stuff in there is stuff that’s never done because people say it’ll keep a movie from being successful. There’s so many tropes inverted, and it’s all done so right.
I think a lot of us were a little like Takao Kasuga as teenagers. He starts off with a few pals, but is a quiet kid. He doesn’t like the dirty old town he lives in. He fancies himself a deep thinker, and tries to reinforce this idea by reading poems from Baudelaire’s Flowers of Evil.
Over at ANN, friend of Vertical, and actually friend of all things giant, robotic, and soccer-filled, Mike Toole reviews The Flowers of Evilanime.
I understand trying to make comics female friendly, but aren't you guys worried that you're going to lose your core audience which is male? In the X-books you've had more focus on the likes on these females like jean and kitty while it should be Cyclops who has been the star of the X-Men comics for years. What warrants these characters more page time than him? Jean and kitty are secondary characters. You guys listen too much to women bitching. They cause so much freakin drama in comicdom.
Wow. you are the first person who I am kind of glad asked your question anonymously because I don’t want to know you.
as a reader of my work I want you to listen to me very carefully: you have major major issues. almost every line of your question reeks of complete misunderstanding of yourself as a man and of women in general.
it’s okay to find yourself more interested in something than others, of course it is, it’s okay to like Cyclops more than Jean Grey, but for you to draw the line at women characters not being interesting to you because you are a man or that you think I am being manipulated by some bitching women is really out there.
and as a reader of the X-Men whose entire philosophy is about tolerance and understanding… you are missing the point.
A Japanese classmate of mine recommended "Saint Young Men" by Hikaru Nakamura; it is still on-going though, with already 8 volumes so I'm not sure how feasible it would be?
This is an easy one for me to answer…
Vertical has wanted to publish this title for as long as I have been with this company (4+ years). Unfortunately, there have been concerns from Ms Nakamura about what she perceives the response will be from the religious Right in America towards this title. The book has been banned in a few countries already. It has caused a bit of a stir on some online circles in the US, as well.
That said, she has allowed the French to release this. I think I heard at least one more EU country will be releasing this soon, also. With that in mind, we hope her stance will change so that it can be released in the US/Canada sometime (hopefully by either us or Kodansha Comics).
Decided to re-read my Gundam The Origin mangas for like the 5th time. I just can't get over how high quality and well made they are. And the full color pages are amazing :3 I guess what I'm trying to say here is thank you for doing such an amazing release :3
You are welcome.
One reason we choose to release Gundam the ORIGIN in that format was to show off our production values. Hopefully that will inspire fans to pick up our other books. We always keep color pages when available (Summer Wars and Knights of Sidonia have color pages). Chi’s Sweet Home is entirely in color, also!! We always make an effort to acquire the rights to bonus materials. And we always try to use high-grade paper (the Tropic of the Sea paper is real nice… as is the paper in Flowers of Evil vol 7).
So while Gundam is a stand out book, we recommend giving most of our manga a shot. (Oh and the Queen’s Blade art book might be our most impressive looking book period. Seriously the paper and hardcover is really top-notch!)
Even though Animenext is like, a year away. I was thinking of trying to host a homestuck ask panel for Animenext 2014, and on the advice of friends, I’ve decided to try and open up auditions early.
More info will be added later but, If you’re interested in audition, we’ll be taking the beta and alpha kids only (This is my first time trying to run a panel, I don’t want things to be too cluttered, so I think 8 people would be enough)
Instead of having a karaoke contest, you have a talent competition? You put things up there like instruments, objects, and anything else or get people to bring in things, and have them perform and the audience has to decide what were the five best ones.Just a suggestion.
So, anime Gong Show? I love the idea but I’m sure it would lead to crushed souls.
I’m freaking out right now because I just looked up the guest list for AnimeNext this year and one of the key animators for Princess mononoke and Porco Rosso, Hiroshi Shimizu, is going to be there!!! I just HAVE to get his autograph.
I can’t wait to go now~ I’ll have to get all of my cosplay stuff done within the next week and a half. I’m so excited!~
